Grade 4 Wheeler"s Busy Month

We have had a busy month in 4Wheeler. We have finished our unit on Alberta's beginnings in Social and have made our own fossils! The students enjoyed learning about Joseph Tyrrell and writing a news article about him. We have a student teacher Mr. Sequira starting on October 23 and will be helping and teaching in our class for 8 weeks.

Having a Hoot in Grade 4

Well Ophelia, the Great Horned Owl, visited our classroom, and the students enjoyed watching her on her perch and listening to her click and hiss. The Wildlife Society gave us an excellent presentation about animals who have been rescued, and gave us some great information about OWLS! Then we dissected owl pellets and found many bones, feathers , and fur that they cannot digest so they cough these up. (they were sanitized specimens) The students are just finishing up their Owl reports and will share them with their reading buddies. We are definitely owl lovers now:)

Spring Events

We have some upcoming events this spring in our Grade 4 classroom. On April 10, we will have the Scientists in the Classroom come for an in school field trip. They will set up activity stations for our wheels and levers unit. They have many excellent hands on activities for the students. We will need 4-5 parent volunteers for this morning. A letter will be sent home soon about this event. In May, we will have the Calgary Wildlife Conservation Society visit our classroom for a presentation on Owls. They bring a live Owl in and give very good information to the students about how we can protect our wildlife.

Winter has arrived!

We are not enjoying the cold weather, but we did a fun art project to make it seem better. The students painted giant mittens and they are a bright display for our classroom. We had a great time on our Field trip in January, to Fort Calgary. The students learned a lot about Calgary's early history and got to dig for artifacts and dress up as Early settlers. A big thank you to our parents who came out to volunteer for the trip!

Count down to Christmas

We have started our count down to Christmas in 4 Wheeler. We are busy working in our Advent booklets and we created a nativity scene out of popsicle sticks and tooth picks. The students really enjoyed this activity. On December 17, we have our  presentation from Byblos Bakery.A list went home with the students, so they can bring in items to make their own healthy snack using the 4 Food groups. The students are excited for PJ Day on December 20, and please remember to bring a small donation for Mission Mexico on this day  Have a very Merry Christmas!
